Dreamscapes
Dreamscapes is an art exhibit, but not in the usual way. It’s an immersive labryinth of art. Rooms and rooms filled with decor. It was created by over 100 Utah artists and is almost completely made of recycled and donated materials. The art is meant to be surreal, like in a dream.
We started the tour in vintage house rooms. Then when we were ready to dream we walked behind a huge moon to the next space.
The next space was this projection room that was the start of the dream.
Next was a maze of mirrors. Link was afraid of going in because he thought we would get lost in the maze. Locke helped coax him in. The mirrors were confusing but fun, especially with multiple Lockes entertaining us with dancing.
In the maze there were a disco balls and twirling umbrellas.
There was also weird mirrors in the maze. The one below made Locke and I have long torsos.
In the middle of the mirror maze was this blocks room. The colors on the blocks changed frequently. Different parts were highlighted when the colors changed.
Under the Sea Room
In the rooms below there were strings filled with cards. People who came through the exhibit wrote what inspires them on the card and hung it on a string. Locke put one up for himself and Link.
These rooms also had creatures like frogs and baby dragons.
It also had some unusual creatures like the ones below. They talked too.
The Volcano room had several different displays including a phoenix, a whirlwind, a pink jewels area, and a dragon. Even the ceilings were decorated in the rooms.
Remi liked the pink jeweled area
We followed the long dragon tail down a hall and into another area. Locke did not like the spider room. He ran across to get to the other side.
The spider room also had some caverns with stalagmite type decorations and one filled with twinkle lights. I couldn’t get a good photo of the twinkle lights. The camera flash lit up the whole room, but you could see all the strands of lights hanging down.
Down a ramp was this rain cloud hall full of doors. Each door was a large closet filled with different scenes including a clock and cog room, a honey comb bee room, a vintage office room, a weird pink space rocket room, etc.
There was a projected tunnel next. Link and Locke were afraid to go in the first time, but Remi wasn’t and she led the way.
The next picture is a scene of surreal chess played by black and white mannequins with chess pieces as heads.
Next we transitioned into weird creatures and garden areas.
The below scene was in a small room. We could look through the holes to see it. We also saw ourselves looking through the holes and waving our arms, and we realized we were looking into a mirror. The scene was below our heads, even though it looked like it was on the far side of the room. Clever!
The last room we went into was all white. I called it the white garden room because there were flowers everywhere.
After we went through the exhibit, the kids wanted to go through it again. They really liked it. So we went through a second time. Remi would have done it again if we had let her.
This art piece was in the lobby. Everything in the art exhibit was gently touchable, so I finally let the kids touch this and play with the sparkling tiles that shone in the sun.
After we were done at Dreamscapes we decided to go to the planetarium because it was right next door. The kids love going there. The planetarium has amazing and fun technology that explain space. The below video is of the kids controlling rovers and making them move. They did a bunch of other stuff too. It was a fun day!
