Bonfire

John had done a lot of work on the property with the tractor. He had cleared and leveled everything. He cleaned up the old goat pens and the junk around them. He also chainsawed dead branches off the privacy trees, and he took out a couple of trees in the middle of the property and pulled out some stumps. He pushed all the debris into the fire pile. Nate called and got a permit to burn and invited some people such as Abe and Emily. I invited my mom. Nate’s parents were visiting and Sandi and the kids were in town. So we had a group here to watch the bonfire. We had neighbors in the street watching the fire too.

Even though we had a permit to burn, the fire department showed up. Because we were on a hill, the whole valley could probably see the fire. Someone called in saying a barn was on fire, so the fire department had to respond. They could see everything was under control. Nate had a hose by the fire just in case there was any problem.

After the fire truck came, Locke and his cousins found the marshmallows and put them on sticks. They were ready to roast them on the fire.

The fire was way too hot even after it had burned down some. It was was full of super hot coals. The fire was so hot, we had to keep moving our chairs back. I pulled out a piece of burning wood that was sitting outside the fire area so they could roast their chocolate stuffed marshmallows I had gotten them. They had already had dinner. We had a delicious grilled hotdog picnic before the fire. Nate’s parents had made baked beans and potato salad. Yum!

While we were all sitting watching the fire, Link found a couple of stink bugs to play with.

Nate and his dad kept an eye on the fire in the evening. Nate wanted to make sure it was mostly out before going to bed. It actually was smoldering for a couple of days.

The fire sure was pretty at night. It was like a giant campfire.
