Cabelas & Natural History Museum

I took the kids to Cabelas to see the fishes and stuffed animals.

After Cabelas I found a Natural history museum in Lehi. It was in an old building and pretty empty of people, but we found it fascinating. We went to the dinosaurs room first because Link loves Dinos.

Locke running from a Dino.

That’s a big crocodile

There was a rock room next to the Dinos with one of the biggest collections of rocks Ive seen. They also had displays of rocks and tools found in mines in Utah

Next they checked out a vault and a jail. They were all afraid to go in it so I volunteered. After that they tried it.

Next, we were surprised and delighted to find a room with live animals. The workers came out and took out the animals too for us to touch and see closer. None of them wanted to get very close to the tarantula, but they did touch the snake and lizard. Remi was surprisingly brave. She touched before the boys would.

This swimming lizard was interesting and very active.

My favorite was this hedgehog. I have always wanted to see one and touch it, especially after reading books about them to the kids when I served in a classroom. It’s little spikes were pokey. It curled into a ball because it was afraid, but eventually stuck its little head out.

I found this weird display and took a picture of it. Never seen human leather before. It also had the guns that the murderer had used

We also found a bird room full of eggs and nest that were labeled with what kind of bird they were from. Egg binding was also interesting.

There was also a Native American room with lots of arrowheads, knives, spears, etc. The boys liked this drum.

On the top floor were some uniforms used in different wars. I got some cute photos of the kids standing with them and saluting

One of our favorite displays was these old hats you could try on. I loved the Audrey Hepburn type. Link liked the black hats, unfortunately they were mostly girl hats, but I didn’t tell him that.

I would like to go back to this museum some day and actually read the displays. They had lots of interesting stuff. I didn’t even see this old soda bottle display until I saw this picture I took of a hat in the mirror.

When we were all done, a guy let each of the kids pick out a free rock. They found some really pretty ones.
