End of Year School Program
The parents and grandparents came to the end of the year school program. The 5 year old twins, Dylan and Hunter had two sets of grandparents there.
For the program, Miss Kathy had the kids recite the poems they had memorized each month. They learned a gratitude poem in November, the Messiah in December, etc. Below they are reciting “Try, Try Again.” Link would get frustrated when he first started to learn to write, so Miss Cathy had the kids learn “Try, Try Again” at the beginning of the school year. (I’m sitting with Link because he was scared at first being in front of the large crowd.)
They also learned the preamble to the constitution. Below, they are singing it in a song .
At the end of the program, Miss Cathy gave each child a packet of their work notebooks and their report cards. She also gave out awards. Locke had read a 3rd grade Lou Gerich book, so she gave it to him as a reward. Each child had also written or drawn pictures of their favorite things about the school year. Locke’s favorite thing was learning to read.
Miss Cathy is moving so she won’t be able to teach them again, but her teaching helped Locke learn to read this year. She used a phonics method instead of the memorizing the word method that the public schools are using. Locked disliked the public school method and wasn’t making any progress. Miss Cathy got him reading in one school year of 3 days a week and 3 hours a day. She explained her method with charts. She is a very smart lady!
After the program, we had rootbeer floats and pizza that Miss Cathy brought. The parents talked about their appreciation and amazement in the progress their kids made that year with Miss Cathy.
