Southern Utah Trip 2020: Lava Flow & Navajo Lake

After passing Cedar Breaks, I saw a sign on the road saying “cinder cone and lava flows.” I didn’t see the cinder cone but I saw a huge, black flow of lava rock. I looked on the internet and read that there are about 25 cinder cones in the area, and the lava flows are basalt. That’s probably why there were so many ATV trails in the area, so people can see the cinder cones and all the lava flows.

Another thing we saw on the way to our campground was Navajo Lake. We saw it as we were driving. An overlook sign said the lake was created when a lava flow blocked the draining area. You can see the lava flow blockage in the below photo and video. We took also took a hike to check it out.
