Monster Truck Rally

Link loves monster trucks. He has a collection of them and loves watching them on videos. I wanted to take him to a real show and was happy to find out that they were having one at the Tooele Motorsports Park. It was a lot cheaper than the big shows in Salt Lake City.

Before the show started they let people check out the trucks and talk to the drivers. Link was a little wary so we didn’t get to do much of that. I at least got a picture of Locke next to one.

They were also doing rides on a monster truck. The kids were fascinated watching it. The last part of the video shows all the vehicles that were going to be in the show and where you could walk around and check them out.

They started the show dramatically with fire. They also had the pledge of allegiance and an introduction to the drivers. One of the drivers was 69 years old, but it was his last show

The first thing they did was have the monster trucks do tricks and the audience clapped to decide who the winner was. They had cash prizes for the winners. The car monster truck was a little cautious. Some of the other trucks got up high in their tricks. I would have taken more video of the other ones doing tricks, but the monster trucks were Extremely loud, so I was busy covering Remi’s ears. I had never heard noises that loud before.

I finally broke down and bought ear protection for the kids. I get ear plugs for me. The ear plugs wouldn’t fit in the kids ears. Remi kept them on because she would jump from the noise every time she tried to take them off. She was fascinated by the show and sat on my lap and watched the whole thing, until she fell asleep at nine. The show went until midnight but we left at 9:00.

Next, they had monster truck races. Some of them really got some air. The winner was Locke’s favorite, the red car monster truck. The one that got so much air broke a tire rod and had to leave.

At the intermission, Link was finally ready to ride a monster truck. He was in his happy place the whole show and didn’t want to miss anything. He sat in his seat didn’t want to get up. But he was excited to ride. Remi was too small, and I was worried Link wouldn’t ride without me, but he did. He said it was a little scary, but he was excited he had done it.

They had a world record breaker for fire breathing at the show, and he was trying to get it as high as he could again.

They also had ATV’s doing tricks and racing, and they had regular vehicles, that had been beefed up, racing each other. Then they had some little kids race on their mini-motorcycles. Some of the kids were only 6 years old. The one that won was 8 years old. He was amazing. He was the only one that did the track right. He did all the jumps and still won. The other kids were taking shortcuts. The announcer said the boy was a Maverick from the family that owns the Maverick gas stations. His family had a monster truck in the show.

It was so fun going to this event. Link did not want to leave. The music was loud but fun. The crowd was dancing and clapping and doing actions to the interactive songs.
